The team ELP GmbH European Logistic Partners/Wuppertal and Roboverse Reply/Gütersloh won first place in the “Urban Recon” discipline at this year’s European Land-Robot Competition (ELROB) in Trier from June 24 to 27, 2024.
ELROB, organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics (FKIE), is a renowned competition for military robotics that takes place every two years. This year, 17 international teams took on the challenging tasks on the grounds of the WTD Defense Technical Center for Land-Based Vehicle Systems, Engineer and Troop Technology.
In the “Urban Recon” discipline, the challenge was to autonomously create a 2D/3D map of a 70-meter-long and 10-meter-wide tunnel course in complete darkness. Various obstacles such as pallets and barrels made the task even more difficult. The team ELP GmbH European Logistic Partners and Roboverse Reply convinced the international jury chaired by the renowned Danish robotics expert Prof. Henrik I. Christensen and secured first place.
