Together with the cities of Schwerte and Dortmund, the Institute for Fire and Rescue Technology of the city of Dortmund, Fraunhofer IIS, Becon GmbH, flyxdrive GmbH and TEMA AG, ELP GmbH is working on an innovative project called 5G DOS Fire. This is the development of a digital mission cockpit for fire departments. The aim of this mission cockpit is to provide mission commanders on the ground with all relevant sensor and reconnaissance information centrally, while at the same time enabling them to control reconnaissance drones and robots. A fast and stable data connection is crucial for this. Therefore, a 5G pop up network is deployed on site by opening a fire truck its own 5G radio cell using a mobile 5G antenna. All collected information then runs in parallel over this radio network.
At a meeting of the participating partners on site in Schwerte, the connectivity of the PackBot within the 5G network was successfully tested. Thus, another step has been taken on the way to the digital operations cockpit.
